Dennis Nappi II is a veteran of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. In 2002, he deployed to Bosnia as a counterintelligence special agent, where he was part of a team searching for a terrorist cell actively plotting against US forces. Upon his return, Sergeant Nappi was hired as a police officer in New Castle County, Delaware. After responding to the aid of a 12-year old boy threatening suicide, Dennis found a greater calling.
In 2008, Dennis was hired as a Philadelphia Teaching Fellow and assigned to a special-education classroom in Southwest Philadelphia where all of his training was put to the test. Dennis’s first book, Service, details his experiences from boot camp to summer vacation, and exposes some very serious concerns in our schools today.
Dennis has written other books about classroom management and school violence, designed to help teachers prepare for a worst-case scenario. He also runs his blog, Service Of Change, where “Small changes among the masses can have a massive impact around the world.” Dennis produces a weekly Changecast: A Podcast for Change, where he and his cohost interview guests who are trying to make a difference in the world.
Links to Dennis’s books can be found on his website or on Amazon.com.
Dennis will be on our show live tonight at 9 p.m. Eastern/6 p.m. Pacific. He will talking about his latest book, Service: A Soldier’s Journey: Counterintelligence, Law Enforcement, and the Violence of Urban Education, and the challenges between citizens and the police in the United States.
