Steven W. Thrasher is Senior Opinion Columnist and Writer At Large for the Guardian US, and a Henry M. MacCracken doctoral fellow in American Studies at New York University. In 2012, he was named Journalist of the Year by the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association. He tweets @thrasherxy.
