Dr. Larry J. Walker is an educational consultant and mental health advocate. Throughout his career Dr. Walker has written extensively about the relationship between trauma and mental illness. He is a former Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Congressional Fellow and Legislative Director for former Congressman Major R. Owens. During his tenure on Capitol Hill Dr. Walker worked on a variety of education, labor and health issues including the “No Child Left Behind” Act and amendments to the Higher Education Act (HEA). Dr. Walker’s research appeared in Diverse Issues in Higher Education, The Penn Center for Minority Serving Institutions and Ebony.com. He is the co-editor of a forthcoming book titled “Graduate Education at Historically Black Colleges and Universities: A Student Perspective” (Routledge Press, 2016).
Dr. Walker will be on our show live tonight at 9 p.m. Eastern/6 p.m. Pacific. He will be talking about his article Black Men and Mental Illness Can Be A Barbershop Conversation, Too
