Jason B. Allen has worked in Education for over fifteen (15) years as a teacher and leader servicing students, families and communities. He began as an ELA teacher and most recently served in school administration. He saw the disproportionate numbers of Black boys in Special Education, being suspended or expelled from school and decided to go back to the classroom as a Special Education teacher to make a bigger impact.
Throughout his career, he has mentored Black boys through his national mentoring program, BMWI (Black Men with Initiative). As an education advocate and blogger, Jason actively speaks and writes on ways to improve educating Black boys and building Black Male Engagement in schools.
His passion for community service led him to become an advocate for family and community engagement, special education and Black boys. He recently finished the Family & Community Engagement Program at Harvard led by Dr. Karen Mapp. As a blogger for the Education Post, he uses his platform on EdLanta to raise awareness of ways to improve how we educate Black boys as well as recruiting Black Male Educators.
Jason leads his family’s non-profit organization, Lillie’s Foundation that supports grandparents raising school aged children and is currently the Board Chair of the State of Georgia’s first charter commissioned school for all girls. Embedding the spirit of service, the main goal of Mr. Allen is to simply help others along his life’s journey. He’s dedicated to servicing those in need, determined to do the right thing for the right reasons to ensure the advancement of Black boys in our community schools.
Mr. Allen will be live on our show tonight at 9:00 p.m. Eastern/6:00 p.m. Pacific. She will be talking about her article We Call Black Boys “Bad” Before they Even Misbehave.
