Interesting. Tyler Perry took Spike Lee on after MADEA’S BIG HAPPY FAMILY in Seattle Saturday night.
What I think Spike Lee is missing is that Tyler Perry is building a bridge over the racial divide that brings white folks to the theaters to see both of their movies. And, I think he’s missing the fact that white families are equally dysfunctional.
PRECIOUS, for example, is a cross-over hit because a whole lot of white women have experienced the same kind of abuse. It doesn’t just happen in the ghetto. It happens in a whole lot of gated communities too ~ there’s a whole lot of shizza going on behind those closed doors that folks don’t talk about.
Tyler Perry is liberating and empowering everyone with his message. And, he’s teaching us all to speak truth to and about abuse of power.

My opinion of Spike comes from film. Perry’s comes from theatre. More of Perry’s beginnings come from stage. Spike became successful with a chip on his shoulder. As for Perry, he related to his fans more on theatre level. However, I am still proud of both of them.
