Black Canada Talking™ is a live online event that provides Black Canadians opportunity to give their takes and POVs on stories that are of importance to them.
On the November 15, 2020 edition of Black Canada Talking™, our guest was Wayne Harris.
Wayne is known for his ability to understand people and their situations by leveraging emotional and cultural intelligence. He has cultivated this edge through thousands of hours of training and development over three decades and loves to pay it forward.
Originally from Montréal, Québec, he is committed to uplifting Black families and their communities from coast to coast. Wayne has coached and mentored teens and adults in basketball, after school programs and career paths, with a special passion for connecting with young Black men from single-parent homes like his own.
Since moving to the Greater Toronto Area in 1990, Wayne has supported folks of all ages in customizing their value to the market and positioning themselves to win. He has also developed young adult programming at the City of North York, The Citizen’ Strong. Wayne is also a proud and longstanding teacher of personal economics for Junior Achievement of Canada.
The majority of his professional background has been based in Information Technology, with 22 years of experience in Cybersecurity technology and solutions for the Canadian, US, and Caribbean markets. Today he works in the Financial Services industry helping families and businesses optimize their succession planning and estates.
Wayne holds a Postgraduate Degree in Business Administration from the University of Leicester and several IT Security related certifications. He is also a licensed insurance agent and a certified coach with the Certified Coaches Federation. He been married to his college sweetheart Angie for over 25 years and has two adult children in university.
Recently, Wayne was on our show talking about Financial Literacy And The Black Family.

– Memories growing up in Montreal and some of the things that he misses about Montreal
– Being raised by a single mother (she died when he was twelve years old) and how has it is impacted him being raised for a few years by his father after his mother died
– Leaving home at and meeting his wife to be when he was nineteen years old
– Memories in the army but not going to war
– Getting into internet security and some memories including meeting and by hired by Robert Herjavec (Shark Tank)
– Changing from the world IT security to financial services
– Two types of Black Canadians when it comes to financial literacy and why many Black Canadians don’t educate themselves about financial literacy
– The importance of having a will, living will and power of attorney
– 2020’s impact on Black Canadians financially
