Kenneth Braswell is the Chief Executive Officer of Fathers Incorporated, a widely recognized national and international nonprofit organization supporting fathers, practitioners, researchers, and policymakers that provides capacity building services to thousands of organizations working to ensure that fathers contribute to the healthy well-being of their children.
He brings 29 years of collective work experience managing and leading fatherhood and community programs. Additionally, he serves as the National Director of the National Responsible Fatherhood Clearing House (NRFC) directing and guiding the strategic activities of the NRFC.
Recently, Mr. Braswell was live on our show talking about the 2020 Million Fathers March Virtual Event that is being held on September 25, 2020 and The Blueprint Virtual Town Hall Forum which is being held on September 29, 2020. During the conversation, Mr. Braswell was joined by Lawrence Wilbon. Mr. Wilbon serves as the Business Development Manager for Fathers Incorporated. With over 20 years of non-profit experience, he is tasked in assisting the organization with funds development and strategic partnerships. Prior to his current position, he has served as an executive director of a local non-profit. He is married with two children and reside in the Metro Atlanta area.
The Million Fathers March (MFM) is an opportunity for dads, uncles, grandfathers, coaches, mentors, clergy, men’s groups and organizations to show their commitment to the educational lives of their children throughout the school year by escorting children to school on this day.
Fathers Incorporated presents a virtual Town Hall Forum to examine the definitions and social reality of fatherhood for Black Fathers. The event is called The Blueprint: Reimagining the Narrative of the Modern Black Father and will be streamed on September 29, 2020 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. (Eastern) across several platforms.
In the newly crafted report, Fathers Incorporated are highlighting the research shows that shows supporting responsible fatherhood is critically connected to lifting Black men and their current and/or future children out of poverty while laying a firm foundation for their success in life. We recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with innovative strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth. We simply want to address the question “WHY DOES POVERTY LOOK LIKE ME?”
During the conversation, the gentlemen talked about:
– Some of their backgrounds
– The background on The Million Fathers March including how it almost did not happen this year, planning for it and what to expect during this year’s event
– How fathers and Fathers Incorporated are handling 2020
– The story behind The Blueprint, some of the challenges that Black American fathers are facing and what to expect during the Blueprint virtual event
– How do they want to feel after these two events, their future vision for Fathers Incorporated and their message for Black fathers
– What people can do to help Fathers Incorporated
