Claudette Ferguson was born to Jamaican parents Leslie and Delma Ferguson on May 7, 1966 Womens College Hospital .
Attended elementary school at the Toronto Junior Academy/now known as Crawford Adventist Academy from 1971 to 1980.
She lived in the sunny southern state of Florida for two years 1980 to 1982 and attend high school in Oshawa, Ontario at Kingsway College graduating from grade 13 in 1985. In 1992, I graduated from Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan with a Bachelors degree in Dietetics.
Ms. Ferguson is currently employed by the Province of Ontario as a Caseworker for the past few years. Her hobbies and interests include travelling, reading, watching documentaries, fitness and nutrition, and Toastmasters!.
Murphy Browne has been on the front lines on issues of racism in her neighbourhood of St. James Town and in the schools where she worked. She was a part-time instructor and historian in the African Heritage /Black Cultural Program of the Toronto District School Board for more than 20 years, a facilitator in the African Studies Program of the Free University of Toronto Program and a diversity trainer for the Girl Guides of Canada. She has been active in the Organization of Parents of Black Children, the Black Action Defence Committee, and the African Theatre Ensemble. Murphy served on the board of directors of Central Neighbourhood House where she chaired the anti-racism/anti-oppression committee and the Human Resources Committee and was President of the Board of Directors. She was a union activist as a member of CUPE 4400 and served on the bargaining and equity committees. As a shop steward, she worked to improve the wages and working conditions of racialiazed union members. Murphy Browne is an impassioned, articulate writer and public speaker on issues of racism.
