Mary C. Curtis is an award-winning multimedia journalist based in Charlotte, North Carolina. She appears weekly on TV’s Fox News “Rising Charlotte” and contributes to The Washington Post She the People blog, The Root, NPR and Creative Loafing, where she writes a column on the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte. She was national correspondent for AOL’s PoliticsDaily.com, covering politics, race and culture and events such as The National Tea Party convention in Nashville. She has worked at The New York Times, Charlotte Observer, Baltimore Sun, Arizona Daily Star and
Associated Press.
During our conversation, Mary talks about the changing face of the American South and the Trayvon Martin incident. She gives her opinion on why African Americans are moving back to the South and Trayvon Martin incident and the issue of diversity in the media. As the interview continues, Mary discusses what is the state of America as the next election gets closer, life as the mother of a Black male child, what she is hearing from young Americans this election campaign, her thoughts of the presidential campaign so far and some of the challenges that North Americans are facing.
