Ron Waksman is the Senior Director, Online and Current Affairs for Global News.
Ron has executive oversight of the project to reinvent Globalnews.ca in order to create the ultimate mobile news experience on any device. In his current role, Ron oversees Global News’ Digital First initiative, evolving legacy broadcast newsrooms into 24 – hour digital news platforms.
Ron is a senior advisor for all Global News operations and strategic planning, and the executive-in-charge of Global News’ Gemini and RTDNA award – winning investigative program, 16X9.
Waksman is responsible for the network’s journalistic principles and practices, which includes editorial standards, professional conduct and ethics. He was the Executive Editor of the second edition of Global News Journalistic Principles and Practices, published in January, 2012. The second edition was updated specifically to include new areas of journalistic practice such as online newsgathering, as well as guidelines around copyright and fair dealing.
Ron has a 21-year track record of executive editorial, broadcast, production and online news management. He is a multiple RTDNA, Edward R. Murrow and Gemini award winner. He played a key role in the growth of Global News, joining Global Ontario as a writer in 1989. Ron was appointed Executive Producer of National News in 1996, then in 2005 he was named News Director at Global Toronto.
