During this conversation, various members of the Black Canadian community talked about:
– Words used and actions taken are important in the recognition of People of African descent.
– People of African descent are a distinct people whose history, culture and contributions must be respected
– Black Canadians are essential and front line workers delivering for the middle class and those working hard to join it
– That there is no data disaggregation reports or special measures taken as required by the UN Decade for peoples of African Descent.
– The need for subsequent engagements from many to get more out of the decade
– The progress Black Canadians have made since the adoption of the UNDPAD (International Decade for People of African Descent – 2015-2024) and what Black Canadians can collectively do to make progress as Black and African Diaspora peoples in Canada
